The command of the armed forces of Germany intends to train 5,000 Ukrainian soldiers.
The training will take place within the framework of the planned mission of the European Union to train Ukrainian troops.
According to the German media, in order to minimize the risk of a Russian attack on the training mission, the training is not being organized in Ukraine.
In total, the EU wants to train 15,000 Ukrainian soldiers during the training mission.
The program should officially start on Monday, October 17, when it will be approved by EU foreign ministers.
Previously, a high-ranking European official told journalists on the condition of anonymity that the EU is preparing a mission that should start functioning in mid-November.
12,000 soldiers will receive basic training, and another 2,800 will receive specialized training.
Those training under the mission’s two-year mandate will include both new recruits and veterans.
There is a need for both basic training and special training, the official explained.
As previously reported, about 10,000 Ukrainian servicemen of the Armed Forces of Ukraine are currently undergoing training in Great Britain as part of the INTERFLEX operation.
Training takes place at military bases in Great Britain.
Instructors from the British Army and the Armed Forces of Denmark, Canada, the Netherlands, Finland, New Zealand and Ukraine are involved in the training.
