Ukraine Disables More Than 45% of Russia’s Oil Refining Capacity – General Staff

The Ukrainian Defense Forces have put more than 45% of Russia’s oil refining capacity out of operation.

Ukraine’s General Staff reported this while summarizing strikes on key Russian targets between September 14 and 20.

The drop in oil refining volumes is linked to precision strikes on Russian oil refineries.

On the night of September 15, Ukrainian forces struck the Syzran oil refinery in Russia’s Samara region.

The attack damaged the AVT-6 unit used for primary crude oil processing, as well as the refinery’s oil storage tanks.

On the night of September 17, the Slavneft-YANOS oil refinery in Yaroslavl came under attack.

The oil refinery has a processing capacity of about 15 million tonnes of crude oil per year. According to Ukraine’s General Staff, the strike damaged the AVT-3 primary crude oil processing unit.

On September 20, Ukrainian forces struck the Moscow oil refinery in Moscow.

Ukraine’s General Staff reported that the strike damaged the AVT-6 unit, a comprehensive oil processing unit, and an isomerization unit.

Following the attack, the Moscow oil refinery suspended oil processing.

Ukraine’s General Staff also said the strikes on Russian oil refineries have contributed to a shortage of high-quality fuel in Russia.

In particular, production of Euro-5/K5 gasoline and diesel fuel has reportedly fallen sharply.
