Norway Orders Additional WiSENT 2 Armored Support Vehicles

Norway has ordered three additional WiSENT 2 armored support vehicles.

The vehicles are manufactured by German company FFG Flensburger Fahrzeugbau Gesellschaft mbH, according to Hartpunkt.

The new order is being placed under existing contracts that included options for the purchase of additional vehicles.

Once this contract is fulfilled, the total number of WiSENT 2 armored support vehicles in service with the Norwegian Armed Forces will increase to 12.

To date, the manufacturer, FFG, has already delivered eight vehicles of this version to the Norwegian Army.

In addition, the Norwegian military previously purchased 12 WiSENT 2 armored engineering vehicles in the AEV (Armored Engineering Vehicle) configuration.

FFG began developing the WiSENT 2 as a private initiative to create a versatile support vehicle for units equipped with Leopard 2 tanks.

The designers adopted a modular architecture that allows the recovery vehicle to be converted into the engineering version, and vice versa, in less than five hours.

The WiSENT 2 normally has a crew of three, although, if necessary, the driver-mechanic can operate the vehicle independently.

For recovery operations, the vehicle is equipped with a 32-tonne-capacity slewable crane, a winch with a continuous pulling force of 40 tonnes, a dozer blade, and a Combat Recovery System (CRS).

In 2024, Denmark also ordered armored WiSENT 2 vehicles in two variants.

They are expected to be delivered to the Danish Armed Forces’ 1st Brigade.
