Ukrainian hackers have claimed to have obtained a large volume of technical documentation related to Russian naval systems.
The operation, dubbed “Poseidon,” was carried out by the Ukrainian Militant community.
According to the group, the compromised data included scientific and technical, design, testing and operational documentation related to Russian naval development, including submarines, navigation, hydroacoustics and marine robotics.
The materials include documents related to the activities of the Central Scientific & Research Institute Elektropribor, the Rubin design bureau and Malakhit Marine Engineering Bureau, JSC Concern Okeanpribor, Elara JSC, Vega Concern, the State Research and Navigation-Hydrographic Institute and other organizations involved in the development of navigation, hydrographic and underwater equipment.
The obtained data reportedly contains information on cooperation between contractors, the composition of the industrial cooperation network, stages of research and development work, testing and the actual status of individual projects.
The group said the compromised data covers ship and submarine navigation, integrated control systems, hydroacoustics, radio navigation, inertial navigation systems, digital hydrography and cartography. The materials also reportedly cover marine robotics, autonomous navigation of underwater vehicles using terrain and geophysical fields, hydrometeorological support and Arctic shelf research.
Among the systems and programs whose documentation was included in the data are Simfoniya, Chardash, KAMA-NS-VK, Sprut-N1, Priliv, 14Ts217, AKNG/PNG-23820 and ISU NK-23550. The materials also mention prospective developments including Kasatka, Veter, Bering, Dirizhor, Poligon, Andromeda, Arkhivarius, Almukantarat and Seagull-M.
Ukrainian Militant said that some of these projects involve the development of high-precision inertial navigation, autonomous operation without satellite navigation, positioning of submarines and autonomous underwater vehicles using geophysical fields, as well as the transition of Russian military hydrography to S-100 standards.
The document cache is said to contain data on nuclear and diesel-electric submarines, frigates, corvettes, amphibious ships and Arctic vessels. In particular, it mentions Project 949AM Antey and Project 636.3 Varshavyanka submarines, as well as ships of Projects 22350, 20386, 23550, 11711, 23770 and 23900.
According to the group, information obtained for some of these projects includes details on the composition and modernization of navigation equipment, equipment placement, cable connections, information interfaces and test results.
The group said it had also obtained technical specifications, technical conditions, operating manuals, structural and functional diagrams, algorithms, accuracy and reliability parameters, test programs and procedures, as well as acceptance certificates.
Ukrainian Militant also claims to have obtained documents bearing restricted-access classifications, including materials from classified research projects and information marked “secret” and “top secret.” According to the group, the documents overall show the involvement of Russian specialists in the military and scientific support of 70 projects involving ships, vessels and submarines under construction or modernization.
The group also participated in gaining access to internal information from Russia’s Gonets satellite communications system.
