A video appeared on the network of how the Ukrainian military first hit the latest Russian 1K148 Yastreb-AV counter-battery radar.

This happened in May 2023 in the temporarily occupied territory of the Donetsk region.

The video of the hit of the enemy radar was shown by the coordinator of the instructors program from the UAV of the Come Back Alive Foundation, which is signed on the social media as the External Pilot.

Judging by the footage, to strike at the Russian radar, the Defense Forces used an American HIMARS M142 rocket launcher.

GMLRS rockets hit near the Yastreb-AV counter-battery radar and likely damaged it.

The ‘External Pilot’ said that the strike at the radar was adjusted using the Shark reconnaissance drone of the 43rd Artillery Brigade, which monitored the movement of Russians.

According to him, this was the first Shark UAV handed over to the military as part of the joint project of the Come Back Alive Foundation and the OKKO gas station network, which was called “EYE FOR AN EYE.”

Observers tracking the course of hostilities of the Russian-Ukrainian war found out that the Yastreb-AV counter-battery radar was discovered and hit near the city of Yenakiievo, which is temporarily under Russian occupation.

In January this year, the military showed the destruction of the Russian 1K148 Yastreb-AV counter-battery radar in the Donetsk region. As a result of the use of the HIMARS MRL, the enemy counter-battery radar was knocked out of action and burnt down.

Also, the Russian Yastreb-AV was hit by the Ukrainian Defense Forces in the Kherson region.

Counter-battery radar

The Yastreb-AV began to arrive to the Russian army recently, the tests were completed only at the end of 2021 or at the beginning of 2022.

It is stated that the radar with phased antenna arrays was able to automatically track the trajectory of shells fired by enemy artillery, determining the exact coordinates of the fire positions. However, the exact characteristics were not disclosed. The 1K148 Yastreb-AV radar is mounted on a BAZ-6910-025 chassis. The rear part of the chassis is assigned to the placement of an antenna post with a large area radar blade.
