Satellite Images Confirm Damage to Tu-95MS Bomber in Engels

Satellite images have confirmed the damage to a Russian Tu-95MS strategic missile-carrying bomber at Engels-2 air base in the Saratov region.

Recent images of the airfield were released by analysts from the AviVector group.

The attack on the occupiers’ airbase took place on the night of Friday, August 28. Long-range drones were operated by personnel from the Special Operations Center «А» of the Security Service of Ukraine.

As a result of the strike, the Russian bomber sustained serious damage to its right wing—part of it actually broke off.

Given the extent of the structural damage, the aircraft is likely beyond repair, as mass production of the Tu-95 ceased several decades ago.

It is unknown whether the Russians are currently capable of restoring the bomber to service at their facilities in its current condition.

The Tu-95MS damaged today was being used by the Russians for training flights at the Engels-2 air base. It operated in tandem with another aircraft, which was also destroyed by the SSU’s Center «А» drones on July 16 of this year.

The strike destroyed the tail section, rendering the bomber beyond repair.

Throughout the night of August 28, residents of the city of Engels reported explosions and a large number of drones.

The Russian Engels-2 air base is home to Tu-95MS and Tu-160 missile-carrying bombers, which regularly attack Ukraine with Kh-101 cruise missiles.

In addition, the base houses depots for ammunition, fuel, equipment, and aircraft maintenance supplies.

Strikes by the Ukrainian Defense Forces against Russian bombers and airfield infrastructure are intended to reduce the aggressor country’s capacity to launch missile attacks on Ukrainian cities.
