The NATO Support and Procurement Agency (NSPA) will support a coalition of nations with a contract for a combined quantity of up to 1,000 Patriot Guidance Enhanced Missiles (GEM-T).

In this way, the Alliance provides support to the member countries of the European Sky Shield initiative, including Germany, the Netherlands, Romania and Spain.

As a reminder, the European Sky Shield Initiative was launched by Germany against the backdrop of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.

The Sky Shield initiative provides for the purchase of air and missile defense systems capable of countering ballistic targets.

German Chancellor Olaf Scholz is convinced that it will be possible to build a pan-European air defense system in five years.

The project aims to reduce the costs of countries by coordinating their procurement of air and missile defense systems, such as the Patriot system.

The contract includes the qualification of updated components, the addition of new suppliers, test equipment, and spares to support future sustainment. Other user nations are expected to benefit from the conditions of the contract.

The Agency awarded a production and delivery contract to COMLOG, a joint venture between Raytheon, an RTX business (NYSE: RTX), and MBDA.

To support production and delivery, COMLOG will expand the production capacity of GEM-T missiles in Europe.

The new production facilities in Europe enhance supply security and will help to replenish stocks of Patriot systems.

“This contract demonstrates that NSPA, as a primary enabler of the Alliance, can successfully deliver effective and cost-efficient multinational solutions to nations, while reinforcing European industrial capacities,” Stacy A. Cummings, NSPA General Manager said.
