Polish companies WZL-2 and Blackfish have presented the MAKO X1 man-portable counter-drone launcher.
A MilItarnyi correspondent at the MSPO defense exhibition in Poland reported on the system.
According to its developers, the MAKO X1 is designed to intercept Shahed/Geran-type unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs).
The system uses a single-use interceptor drone that can operate either in a kinetic configuration or equipped with a warhead.
The interception software was developed in-house by Blackfish, while initial target detection is performed exclusively through an optical channel.
The MAKO X1 is intended for use by ground forces and special operations forces. The developers position the system as a cheaper and more maneuverable alternative to conventional guided missiles for countering unmanned aerial systems.
The interceptor has a stated maximum speed of 400 km/h, a range of up to 10 km, and a service ceiling of 4 km. The drone has a maximum takeoff weight of 3 kg and a flight endurance of approximately 10 minutes.
The system is also claimed to be resistant to electronic warfare (EW) measures during the terminal phase of the attack, while also offering autonomous target guidance.
The system is operated by a single servicemember and carries one interceptor drone.
WZL-2 is one of Poland’s largest aviation companies and is part of the state-owned PGZ defense group. It specializes in the maintenance, repair, and modernization of military aircraft, as well as the development and production of unmanned systems.
Blackfish P.S.A. is a Polish privately owned industrial technology company that develops autonomous and counter-drone systems, including unmanned platforms featuring optical detection, target tracking, and AI-assisted target guidance.
WZL-2 also demonstrated the SAR EVO5 WP bomber drone at MSPO in a configuration equipped with four payload release mechanisms.
