In Ukraine, the Bars jet-powered drone, designed to carry out missions at various ranges, is undergoing continuous improvement.
The drone’s developer discussed this in an interview with RBC-Ukraine.
The new version of the unmanned aerial vehicle is capable of traveling up to 1,000 km while carrying a payload weighing up to 60 kg (previously 700 km and 22.5 kg, respectively).
The jet drone’s flight speed exceeds 700 km/h.
The Bars design is built as a modular platform, allowing the device to be quickly adapted for specific missions.
Thanks to its modularity, the aircraft has three main categories of application: DeepStrike, MiddleStrike, and FrontStrike.
Changing the configuration allows for balancing the volume of the fuel tanks against the weight of the payload to create different variants.
Since the first prototype, the drone has undergone more than 40 upgrades and iterations.
“We use the tools that AI technology provides us with today and do not shy away from using them at all levels — from development and solving engineering problems to implementing machine vision in our target-acquisition systems,” the developer noted.
The system allows the pilot, during the final stage, to choose between manual control and handing control over to the optical guidance system.
Bars drones used to strike the invaders are launched using small solid-fuel boosters.
An above-ground launch system is used for the launch; its appearance is not disclosed, presumably for security reasons, so that the enemy cannot detect it.
