France wants to begin initial training of Ukrainian pilots on Rafale fighter jets.

French Aid to Europe reported this, citing Le Figaro.

Currently, France uses specialized GROB G-120TP training aircraft for the basic and advanced stages of training.

The country also operates Dornier Alpha Jet jet trainer-combat aircraft.

These aircraft enable pilots to build the skills needed in flight techniques, navigation, and the fundamentals of aerial combat before transitioning to combat fighter jets.

As a reminder, training for Ukrainian pilots and mechanics to operate Rafale fighter jets is set to begin in France this year.

After training, the first four Rafale aircraft will be delivered to the Ukrainian Air Force.

Plans also call for the purchase of the first 16 French Rafale fighter jets for the Ukrainian Air Force, along with the necessary armaments.

Ukraine is expected to receive the first aircraft of this type in 2028–2029.

In November 2025, plans were reported to order 100 French Rafale fighter jets to strengthen the Ukrainian Air Force.

In addition, French AASM Hammer high-precision air-to-ground bombs with rocket engines will be integrated into the Gripen fighters for Ukraine.

The integration will be carried out through a joint effort by French and Swedish specialists—Saab, as the aircraft manufacturer, and Safran, as the bomb manufacturer.
