Iran Attacks German Camp in Jordan With Ballistic Missiles

On the night of March 10, Iranian ballistic missiles struck a German field camp at the Al-Azraq Air Base in Jordan.

As a result of the attack, a building housing the Bundeswehr contingent was damaged, but no personnel were injured, Spiegel reports.

Military personnel moved to shelters in time, which helped avoid casualties among the staff. Specialists are currently determining whether the base suffered a direct hit or whether the damage was caused by missile debris previously intercepted by the air defense system.

Units of the U.S. Air Force are also stationed at this base, and their air defense systems protect the facility.

Germany has maintained a contingent at Al-Azraq for several years as part of the international counterterrorism coalition. The main task of these units is to support operations using aerial refueling aircraft.

Due to the worsening security situation in the Middle East, the command had previously reduced the number of soldiers stationed there.

Currently, two A400M transport aircraft are at the airfield and remain on standby in case an emergency evacuation is required.
