Ukrainian drones pierced the roof and damaged the walls of the VKontakte data center near St. Petersburg.
Satellite images published by analysts on the Telegram channel Absolutely Reliable Source show this.
The Ukrainian Armed Forces attacked the facility on October 18.
“The main building of the data center sustained significant damage to its roof and walls. Traces of fire are also visible inside, indicating possible significant damage to the equipment,” the analysts said.
The facility houses four server rooms, 640 server racks, and over 20,000 servers. Adjacent to the data center is the Vostochnaya 330-kV substation, which was also hit.
On the day of the attack, the outage monitoring service Detector404 recorded an increase in complaints about the operation of the social network VKontakte and the VK Music service.
Users mainly complained about problems loading their news feeds and playing music tracks.
Last week, Ukraine launched three attacks on Yandex data centers.
After the third attack, users across Russia began reporting issues with Yandex services and many other websites.
