Türkiye will receive a share of the diesel fuel that Russia will supply to the global market under an agreement between Moscow and US President Donald Trump’s administration.
Turkish Energy Minister Alparslan Bayraktar announced this, Reuters reported.
According to the minister, the agreement is important for Türkiye’s energy security.
Bayraktar noted that Russia had restricted diesel fuel exports in recent months due to supply issues, but Ankara will now be able to receive part of the Russian fuel.
“Thanks to the negotiations we have held, we will receive part of this fuel for Türkiye,” Bayraktar said.
However, the minister did not specify how much diesel fuel Türkiye would receive or the terms of delivery.
On October 9, US President Donald Trump announced an agreement with Russian President Vladimir Putin to supply 4.8million tonnes of diesel fuel to the US and global markets.
According to Trump, Russia was to immediately deliver more than 300,000 tonnes of fuel, followed by another 500,000 tonnes in November, 1 million tonnes shortly thereafter, and an additional 3 million tonnes within a short timeframe, depending on the capacity of Russian oil refineries.
On the same day, the US Department of the Treasury, through the Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC), issued a temporary authorization for transactions involving Russian diesel fuel previously subject to US sanctions restrictions.
The document allows the sale, delivery, unloading, and import of such fuel until April 7, 2027.
Following Trump’s announcement, Russian Deputy Prime Minister Alexander Novak said that Moscow was beginning to lift its own restrictions on diesel fuel exports ahead of schedule.
