The Ministry of Internal Affairs of Latvia is preparing a report for the government on the introduction of a state of emergency in certain regions.

The report is being prepared because of the “partial mobilization” announced in the Russian Federation, according to local media Delfi.

They note that the situation at the state border is currently stable and under control. They also note that the situation on Latvia’s border with the Russian Federation and Belarus is better than in Estonia and Lithuania.

However, Latvian Interior Minister Kristaps Eklons emphasized that the situation could change quickly.

On Tuesday, the head of the Ministry of Internal Affairs will submit the justification of the emergency situation to the government, so that the Cabinet of Ministers can evaluate the proposal together with representatives of the relevant services.

The main reasons for the introduction of a state of emergency are the possibility of attracting additional resources and the Armed Forces to protect the borders. It is also about establishing procedures for checking and registering those who cross the border.

As previously reported, Lithuania has put the Rapid Response Force on high alert because of mobilization in the Russian Federation.
