The U.S. service members tested the new RD-SUADS containerized electronic warfare system designed to counter drones at the Grafenwöhr training area in Germany.
Representatives from the Army, Air Force, and Marine Corps were involved in testing the system, according to the U.S. Army Europe and Africa.
The field tests took place as part of a joint-service course for UAV countermeasure system operators.
The RD-SUADS system, developed by the American company Trust Automation, was designed to protect military facilities and command posts in combat zones.
The system is designed as a single module measuring 170 × 274 × 229 cm, which complies with the 463L aviation pallet standard.
This allows it to be quickly transported and airdropped using military transport aircraft.
The system’s autonomous operation is ensured by a built-in diesel generator, which has enough fuel for four days of continuous operation.
If infrastructure is available, the system can be connected to a military base’s power grid or external generators.
A mast is mounted on the roof of the container, equipped with four radar panels for 360° surveillance, an optoelectronic camera, and countermeasure antennas.
In addition to the containerized version, there is a stationary variant, the FS-SUADS (Fixed Site Small-Unmanned Air Defense System), which is mounted on a mast.
Militarnyi previously reported that DroneShield equipped the U.S. Army’s Infantry Squad Vehicles (ISVs) with DroneSentry-X Mk2 drone countermeasure systems.
The work was carried out under a contract with Joint Task Force 401 (JIATF-401).
