The American company Red Cat Holdings has announced a strategic partnership with Safe Pro Group Inc. to integrate artificial intelligence into Black Widow attack drones.
As part of the partnership, Black Widow drones are equipped with Safe Pro’s SPOTD system, which processes 4K video on board and transmits data to military platforms, including the US Army’s Tactical Assault Kit (ATAK).
The new solution is capable of detecting more than 150 types of explosive devices in real time. These include anti-personnel mines, cluster munitions, and unexploded ordnance.
The drones are also equipped with the SPOTD Navigation, Observation and Detection Engine (NODE) module, a navigation and mapping core that creates interactive 2D and 3D maps with threats.
The uniqueness of the technology lies in its training on real data collected in Ukraine. According to Safe Pro, the algorithms have been trained on more than 1.88 million images from drones covering 8,119 hectares of territory.
As a result, more than 34,200 explosive objects were detected. This is one of the world’s largest databases of landmines and explosive devices.
“As the events in Ukraine have shown, the battlefield is changing rapidly, which creates a critical need to provide the military with access to improved situational awareness in real time. By leveraging the capabilities of the Black Widow drone combined with our battle-proven Safe Pro threat detection technology, we have created a platform that uniquely meets the U.S. Army’s battlefield intelligence needs. We look forward to providing this technology to our warfighters,” said Dan Erdberg, Chairman and CEO of Safe Pro Group Inc.
