Ukrainian paratroopers successfully stormed Russian positions near Petrivka and took prisoners.
The members of the 82nd Separate Bukovina Airborne Assault Brigade reported that they had fully cleared the village of occupying forces.
The operation was carried out by the soldiers of the 3rd Air Assault Battalion, who halted the enemy’s attempted advance.
“The enemy was knocked out of Petrivka and the settlement was cleared,” the brigade said.
Bukovina paratroopers approached the Russian positions in a forest belt and threw backpacks containing explosives into their shelter. A powerful blast forced the soldiers to surrender. During the engagement, two Russian troops were killed and six were captured.
The battle took place in the Shakhivska rural community, within the zone of a deep Russian breakthrough. Additional Ukrainian units were quickly deployed to stabilize the situation and push back enemy forces.
Since August 7th, Russian troops had advanced roughly 15 kilometers along a narrow front, threatening Dobropillia and the Ukrainian units defending the Pokrovsk-Myrnohrad area. There was also a risk to Kostiantynivka.
Had the breakthrough not been contained, it could have also endangered the Sloviansk-Kramatorsk area.
On August 12th, the 1st Azov Corps of the National Guard of Ukraine set a designated defense line in the Dobropillia area, stabilizing the front in coordination with other units.
