The General Staff of the Armed Forces of Belarus has stated that it shared information on transit drones from Russia with Poland.

Major General Pavel Muraveiko, Chief of the General Staff and First Deputy Minister of Defense of the Republic of Belarus, reported on this.

“During the nightly mutual drone strikes between the Russian Federation and Ukraine, the on-duty air defense forces and assets of the Republic of Belarus continuously tracked aircraft that went off course due to the influence of electronic warfare systems used by both sides,” he stated.

According to him, Belarusian air defense forces destroyed some of these drones over the country’s territory.

Muraveiko noted that between 11:00 p.m. on September 9 and 4:00 a.m. on September 10, Belarusian duty units exchanged data on the air and radar situation with their Polish and Lithuanian counterparts. In this way, they reportedly alerted neighboring countries about the approach of unidentified aerial vehicles.

“This allowed Poland to respond promptly to the actions of the drones by scrambling their duty forces,” he added.

Meanwhile, Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk emphasized that the drones that violated the country’s airspace had, for the first time, arrived directly from the territory of Belarus.

“Around 11:30 p.m., the first violation of Polish airspace was recorded. The last one occurred around 6:30 a.m. This gives an idea of the scale of the operation, as it lasted the entire night,” Tusk stated.

According to Ukrainian analysts from the Dnipro OSINT project, the attack was executed using the Shatalovo military air base in Russia’s Smolensk region.

This air base hosts fixed launch platforms for Shahed-136 and Geran drones. Analysts emphasized that it is the closest launch point for Russian strike drones to Poland and the Baltic states.

“It is precisely from Shatalovo that the Shaheds enter Poland: flying through the Polissya region, they cross into Polish airspace and fall on the heads of civilians,” Dnipro OSINT stated.

During the incursion of Russian drones, the Netherlands scrambled F-35 fighter jets to protect Polish airspace.
