Spanish defense company Indra Sistemas has completed successful tests of its new NEMUS radar system, designed for integration with armored vehicles, Infodefensa reports.

Developed jointly by Indra Sistemas and Germany’s Rheinmetall AG, the NEMUS radar uses active electronically scanned array (AESA) technology and is intended to protect Leopard 2E main battle tanks against a range of threats, including drones and high-velocity projectiles.

The system offers 360-degree coverage and can detect threats traveling at speeds of up to 1.8 km per second. Developers say it performs reliably in adverse weather conditions, including rain, snow, and low temperatures.

During trials, the radar demonstrated the capability to detect and track various types of threats, including shaped-charge munitions, tandem and triple warheads, and high-angle attacks.

Once a threat is identified, the system can automatically deploy countermeasures depending on the configuration — whether integrated with active protection systems or passive defenses.

Indra Sistemas is also working to adapt the NEMUS radar for other platforms, including the Dragon 8×8 wheeled armored vehicle and lighter armored platforms, aiming to offer a broad protection solution across multiple vehicle classes.

Previously, Militarnyi reported that Turkey’s armed forces had adopted the AKKOR 10 active protection system, designed to intercept and neutralize anti-tank guided missiles.

In 2024, Turkish defense firm Aselsan A.Ş., along with the Ministry of National Defense’s procurement agency, conducted qualification tests of the system, confirming its effectiveness against such threats.

The AKKOR 10 system is now operational on Turkey’s Altay main battle tank. Aselsan A.Ş. is also working to integrate the system into upgraded Leopard 2A4 tanks and a prototype of a new M60 tank variant.
