Drones hit the fuel and energy facility in Kardymovo, Smolensk region, Russia.
The governor of the Smolensk region, Vasily Anokhin, announced this.
It is home to a gas condensate-to-petrol plant and an oil depot.
According to him, at about 2:00 a.m. in the Kardymovsky district of the region, a fuel and energy facility was attacked by allegedly Ukrainian drones.
Anokhin says that the drones were destroyed by air defense forces, but the falling debris caused a fire.
A container with fuels and lubricants caught fire at the facility. Rescuers are currently working at the scene to extinguish the open flames. Information about the victims is being clarified.
In addition, attacks by allegedly Ukrainian drones were reported in Bryansk, Belgorod, Kursk, and Kaluga regions.
In the Kaluga region, local governor Vladislav Shapsha claimed that the drones had damaged an energy infrastructure facility.
The Russian Defense Ministry reported on 50 downed drones allegedly launched by Ukraine.
The agency clarified that the drones had been destroyed in Belgorod, Bryansk, Tula, Kursk, Smolensk, Ryazan, Kaluga, and Moscow regions.
Also in Russia, Bryansk Governor Alexander Bogomaz reported a fire at an energy infrastructure facility in the Vygonichsky district.
It was recently reported that Russian energy companies were preparing to protect their infrastructure against possible drone strikes. The future standard of protection in Russia envisages the development of a system, in which the active component will be represented by drone detection equipment.
