A Russian Su-24M tactical bomber crashed in the Volgograd region on the evening of September 12, 2023.
The Russian Interfax news agency reported on this with reference to the Russian Defense Ministry.
The crash occurred during a scheduled training flight.
The plane was flying without ammunition and crashed in a deserted area.
Mi-8 helicopters of the rescue service were sent to the scene.
The regional administration reported that there were “no casualties or damage on the ground” when the plane crashed.
According to the Russian newspaper Izvestia’s source, the crashed plane was part of the 11th Aviation Regiment, which is based at the Marinovka Air Base.
The plane crash occurred 5 km west of the village of Lozhky. There was no damage on the ground.
It is worth noting that the Su-24 is a Russian tactical bomber. It is designed to carry out missile and bomb strikes and can strike ground and surface targets.
These aircraft are actively used by Russia in the war against Ukraine, but Ukrainian air defense manages to shoot them down.
They also quite often crash while flying over Russia.
As previously reported, in October 2022, a Su-24 bomber of the Russian Aerospace Forces crashed in the Rostov region.
