Ukrainian paratroopers demonstrated the combat use of the Bohdana self-propelled artillery system, which is in service with units of the Air Assault Forces and provides fire support on the front line.

This was reported on the Facebook page of the 80th Separate Airborne Assault Brigade of the Air Assault Forces of the Armed Forces.

The Air Assault Forces emphasized that the Ukrainian 155 mm self-propelled artillery system offers rapid deployment, precise target engagement, and high mobility, which are especially important during both defensive and offensive operations.

Artillery crews note that the effectiveness of the system depends not only on technical characteristics but also on crew coordination, which is continuously trained to a state of automatism.

Training includes a full cycle of operations, from entering a firing position and aiming to opening fire and quickly relocating after completing a mission to avoid counter-battery fire.

Bohdana became the first Ukrainian wheeled 155 mm NATO-standard self-propelled artillery system, marking an important step in the Defense Forces’ transition to Western artillery ammunition.

During the full-scale war, the system has moved from prototype status to serial production and is gradually being delivered to various units of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

Ukraine’s defense industry has scaled up production of the system, including adapting it to different chassis types to accelerate deliveries to the army.

The wheeled platform gives the system high operational mobility, which is critical in modern warfare, where artillery must strike and relocate quickly before being detected.

Characteristics of the Bohdana self-propelled artillery system

  • Caliber: 155 mm
  • Barrel length: 52 calibers
  • Ammunition standard: NATO 155 mm
  • Firing range: up to 42 km (with standard projectile), longer with specialized ammunition
  • Wheel configuration: depends on chassis version
  • Highway speed: up to 80 km/h
  • Crew: 5
  • Type: wheeled self-propelled artillery system

The increasing number of Bohdana systems in service demonstrates the gradual strengthening of Ukraine’s domestic artillery capability without full reliance on foreign supplies.

Previously, Militarnyi reported in detail on the development of the Ukrainian Bohdana self-propelled howitzer, including the use of various chassis to scale up production.
