Poland is negotiating on the establishment of a coalition of Leopard 2A4 tanks donors to Ukraine.
Polish Defense Minister, Mariusz Blaszczak announced this.
At the initiative of the Polish PM, negotiations were held among the Leopard 2A4 tank-owning countries.
“We have held negotiations among countries which own Leopard 2A4 tanks to jointly create a coalition of donors of modern armored weapons for Ukraine,” said Mariusz Blaszczak.
It is noteworthy that in the background of the photo there is the flag of Turkey, but not the flag of Germany, which officially transfers Leopard tanks to Ukraine.
Although Turkey has not yet officially announced its participation in the tank coalition, its defense industry has the capacity to repair and modernize these tanks.
Turkey is able to modernize hundreds of Leopard tanks 2A4 to modification of TİYK-LEO 2A4.
The modernization entails installation of modern electronics and optics, as well as Volkan-III/TAXI fire control system.
Besides, the hydraulic Turret Drive Stabilization System is replaced by the electric one. The tanks receive the ASOP Akkor Pulat active protection system, the TLUS laser warning system or its LIAS counterpart.
The turret will be equipped with a remotely controlled Aselsan SARP combat module with a 12.7mm machine gun. The armament will be left unchanged, namely Rh 120/L44 gun and 7.62mm coaxial machine gun. The engine will not change either.
Turkish companies Roketsan and Aselsan are modernization subcontractors.
It should be recalled that on January 25, it became known that Ukraine would receive 14 Leopard 2 tanks from the Bundeswehr, and that Germany also allowed partner countries to provide German tanks from their own reserves to Ukraine.
