Iranian-made drones, which the Russian Federation received and is using in the ongoing war in Ukraine, have suffered numerous failures and do not give Russia significant advantages.
This assessment was expressed by the Deputy Undersecretary of Defense for Policy Sasha Baker, CNN reports.
The Pentagon claims that Iranian drones are not as effective as previously thought.
“We have seen some evidence already that the UAVs associated with the transfer from Iran have already experienced numerous failures on the battlefield. in Ukraine,” Baker said.
She also emphasized that the Iranian drones did not live up to the expectations of the Russians.
“I think that the idea that they represent some technological leap ahead, frankly, we’re just not seeing borne out in the data,” the Pentagon spokeswoman said.
In late August, the US said that Russia had received weapons-capable Iranian drones that will likely be deployed on the battlefield in Ukraine.
The first use of Iranian drones in the Kharkiv region became known on September 13.
A visual analysis of the drone’s wing elements indicates that the Russians are using the Iranian Shahed-136 kamikaze drone, which was designated “Geran-2” in Russia.
On September 15, the Russian military used these Iranian drones against the objects in the Dnipropetrovsk region.
The air defense of the Armed Forces of Ukraine is actively studying and gaining real experience in destroying these drones, which are used by the Russian invaders to destroy ground objects.
On September 23, Ukrainian military for the first time shot down Iranian Mohajer-6 drone, which is designed for reconnaissance, surveillance and fire damage.
