The Ukrainian ground drone MAUL successfully evacuated a wounded soldier who was placed in the drone’s armored capsule.
The First Separate Medical Battalion reported that the operation was carried out together with the 53rd Separate Mechanized Brigade.
During a firefight, a soldier of the 53rd SMB was shot and ended up in a gray zone.
The military decided to carry out an urgent evacuation using ground drones.
The situation was complicated by the fact that the soldier was actually behind enemy lines.
The brigade made eight attempts at evacuation. But the command did not give up on its plans to evacuate and fight for the soldier.
The First Medical Battalion was involved in the operation, and a decision was made to use a MAUL ground drone equipped with an armored capsule.
After unsuccessful attempts and the loss of two drones, the 11th attempt was successful — the wounded soldier was evacuated, delivered to a safe zone, and provided with the necessary medical assistance.
The total length of the route was 64 kilometers, and the mission lasted six hours.
The Maul UGV project was launched after a request from the First Medical Battalion of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, which was looking for a mobile means of evacuating the wounded in difficult conditions.
It is built on the basis of a quad bike with an internal combustion engine.
The capsule is armored and maximally protected, and the MAUL itself is extremely durable and resilient, capable of withstanding powerful blows.
