Britain and Germany Accelerate Development of New Missile With 2,000 km Range

The UK has confirmed that work on a joint British-German long-range missile program is accelerating.

Secretary of State for Defense John Healey announced the progress, calling the project one of the key areas under the Trinity House defense agreement, the UK Defence Journal reported.

Healey said the joint missile effort is part of a broader defense partnership between the two countries. The goal is to strengthen European security, reinforce NATO’s eastern flank and deepen cooperation in the defense industry.

The missile program was announced in May 2025 as part of the Trinity House Agreement between the UK and Germany. The document provides for joint technology programs, knowledge sharing and the development of new defense systems.

According to the UK Ministry of Defense, the future missile will be one of the most advanced the country has developed. It is expected to have a range of more than 2,000 kilometers and be capable of carrying out strategic deterrence missions within NATO. The program is also expected to bring investment into the British defense sector and create thousands of high-skilled jobs in the UK and Germany.

Recently, analysts expressed doubts about the pace of progress, as little official information has been released since the initial announcement. Healey’s latest statement is the first clear confirmation that technical work on the missile is moving forward.

The Secretary of State for Defense said the British-German partnership “benefits both security and the economy,” and called the project strategically important for European defense and the UK’s industrial base.
