Ukrainian military engineers have started using plastic pontoons made of interlocking cubes to transport troops. The system can be assembled and deployed in about 15 minutes.

The 61st Separate Mechanized Steppe Brigade shared that the pontoon system has already proven effective in several areas along the front.

“Mobility, speed of construction, and structural reliability allow our units to stay one step ahead of the enemy,” the brigade said.

Engineers from the brigade first used the plastic cubes during the Kursk operation.

The pontoons are designed to carry infantry and light equipment. A wooden deck is added on top for vehicle movement.

“It can be built to any length and width. The longest crossing we’ve assembled so far is 30 meters,” the engineers note.

The plastic cubes are produced by a Ukrainian manufacturer.

“Our floating systems can be used in any region and weather conditions. They’re easy to install on any body of water,” the company pointed out.

The manufacturer notes that the cubes are storm-resistant, don’t freeze into ice, and are unaffected by tides.

The modules connect with special fasteners, allowing engineers to modify the bridge’s configuration or quickly replace damaged sections.

The Austrian armed forces recently tested a similar modular plastic system, the ROM Trench System, during the Waldviertel 25 exercise.
