Drones attacked an oil depot in the city of Proletarsk, Rostov region, causing a fire.
Vasily Golubev, governor of the Rostov region, officially announced the attack on the oil depot.
The attack took place in the early morning hours of August 18, 2024. According to official information, the drones attacked diesel fuel tanks.
According to Rostov region officials, the oil depot was attacked by two waves of drones with a certain periodicity between strikes.
Despite the massive fire, the primary cause, as voiced by Governor Vasily Golubev, was the fall of debris from drones that were allegedly shot down by air defense systems.
Later, at about 05:35 a.m., the oil depot was shelled again, forcing firefighters to suspend firefighting.
As a result, the area of the fire at the oil depot began to grow, and additional firefighters arrived to localize it.
In addition, around 6:50 a.m., a special fire train joined the firefighting efforts, as the available forces were not enough to fight the fire.
The damaged oil depot is located in the city of Proletarsk, Rostov region, about 160 km from the regional center and 300 km from the border with Ukraine. Coordinates of the oil depot: 46.69348504540607, 41.78382945978459
As of 10:00 a.m. Kyiv time, the fire is still being extinguished.
The oil depot in Proletarsk was already attacked by drone strikes in May, but the consequences were minor.
Militarnyi previously reported that on August 3, Ukrainian attack drones hit fuel tanks of the Federal Agency for State Reserves in the Rostov region.
