The commanders of the air forces of Czechia and Germany discussed the planning of future operations and joint training related to the introduction of F-35 Lightning II fighter jets.

This update was provided by the NATO press service.

This will not only contribute to strengthening the defense capabilities of both countries, but also to better coordination and effectiveness of international operations.

The governments of both countries decided to purchase fifth-generation fighter jets to strengthen their military capabilities.

Germany plans to introduce the first aircraft into service in 2026, and the first planes are expected to arrive in Czechia at the beginning of the next decade.

The Czech Army expects to achieve full operational capability in 2035. One of the key points of the talks between the commanders of the German and Czech Air Forces was the strategy of joint training.

The Chief Commander of the German Air Force, Lieutenant General Ingo Gerhartz, and his Czech counterpart, Major General Petr Čepelka, discussed the further joint training of military pilots from both countries.

According to the Commander of the Luftwaffe, the joint approach to the introduction of F-35A aircraft creates not only a strong alliance between Germany and Czechia but also represents an important step towards the future development of air forces in Europe.

F-35A for Germany

The German government ordered 35 F-35A fighter jets in December 2022. In addition to the aircraft, the deal includes a comprehensive support package, jet engines, specialized military equipment, spare parts and logistical support, training, and weapons. The new aircraft will replace the German Tornado fleet and will also be used to support NATO’s nuclear proliferation mission.

F-35A for the Czech Republic

The governments of the Czech Republic and the United States signed an agreement to purchase 24 fifth-generation F-35A Lightning II fighter jets in January 2024.

The Czech Air Force currently operates 14 Gripen aircraft leased from Sweden, which form the backbone of the country’s combat aviation. These fighter jets will be in service until 2035.
