Romania will soon receive a C-UAS system to be deployed on the border with Ukraine.
This is reported by the HotNews.ro news portal, citing sources in the country’s government.
This is happening against the backdrop of a series of incidents involving the falling of drone debris in Romania, which Russia used to attack Ukraine’s Odesa region.
According to the publication’s sources, this is one of the most effective systems for countering drones in Europe. It is likely to be installed near the banks of the Danube.
Romania will receive this system as part of agreements between the governments of several partner countries and with the consent of NATO. The relevant documents will be signed in the near future.
It is not yet known what kind of system will be delivered to Romania and its cost, and it remains a secret which countries will supply the equipment.
As previously reported, Romania recorded several incidents of drones crashing during Russian attacks on the Odesa region of Ukraine.
The Romanian Ministry of Defense concluded that the drones fell on Romanian territory by accident. According to them, these were Russian drones shot down by Ukrainian air defense.
To protect civilians living in settlements near the Ukrainian border, shelters were built on the banks of the Danube in Romania.
Another Russian drone crashed on Romanian territory during an attack in Odesa region on the night of October 12, 2023.
A Russian unmanned aerial vehicle crashed three kilometers away from the village of Plauru in Tulcea County.
The Russian troops use the territory of third countries to avoid Ukrainian air defense.
