The Ukrainian military has reinforced the Bakhmut direction with Swedish CV 90 infantry fighting vehicles.
The footage featuring the CV90 IFVs in this direction was made public by journalists from the US edition of the Associated Press.
“Ukrainian military personnel on a Swedish CV90 IFV at their positions near Bakhmut,” says the Associated Press caption to the photo.
In February 2023, the Swedish government allocated one of its largest military aid packages to Ukraine, which for the first time included CV 90 infantry fighting vehicles.
Ukraine was to receive 51 CV9040C infantry fighting vehicles with Archer Artillery Systems from Sweden.
The combat vehicles are equipped with, among other things, 40 mm automatic cannons, smoke grenade launchers and machine guns.
The automatic gun can fire against infantry, armored vehicles and air targets at a distance of up to four kilometers.
One of the Associated Press photos also portrays a Ukrainian soldier with a sleeve badge of the 21st Mechanized Brigade.
It is likely that this newly created brigade will be armed with all CV 9040C IFVs that are transferred to Ukraine.
Since March, the Ukrainian military has been trained in several types of weapons and military equipment and, according to local publications, already in May returned to Ukraine.
It is worth noting that Sweden uses AMAP modular composite armour concepts by the German IBD Deisenroth Engineering for its CV 9040C IFVs, which provide protection against a 30-mm armour-piercing fin-stabilized discarding sabot (dart ammunition).
In total, Sweden has hundreds of IFVs, meaning there is a possibility that additional IFVs will be sent to Ukraine in the future.
