In the battle near Bakhmut, the Hero of Ukraine, the battalion commander of the 67th Mechanized Brigade Dmytro Kotsiubailo, also known by the call sign “Da Vinci” was killed.

This was announced by the President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelensky.

“Today, “Da Vinci,” the Hero of Ukraine, a volunteer, a man-symbol, a man-bravery, died in battle – Dmytro Kotsiubailo. Warrior of the 67th Mechanized Brigade, battalion commander. He died in the battle near Bakhmut, in the battle for Ukraine,” the President wrote.

Since 2014, he has defended the independence of Ukraine by taking an active part in the Revolution of Dignity. He is one of the youngest heroes of Ukraine.

In 2014, Da Vinci led a platoon of volunteers involved in repelling Russian aggression. A year later, he commanded a company. In 2014, he was seriously wounded in Pisky, Donetsk region, after recovery he returned to the frontline.

On March 17, 2016, “Da Vinci” became the commander of the 1st Assault Company “Da Vinci`s Wolves” of the Right Sector Ukrainian Volunteer Corps, which was subsequently reformatted into a Battalion.

On November 30, 2021, for personal courage shown in the defense of state sovereignty, Dmytro Kotsiubailo received the Hero of Ukraine title with the award of the Order of the Gold Star.
