Russia plans to increase its military spending to $142 billion in 2025.
This amount is equal to 6.2% of Russia’s gross domestic product.
Bloomberg reported this after reviewing the draft three-year budget of the Russian Federation.
According to this document, the Russian government plans to increase defense spending to RUB 13.2 trillion ($142 billion) in 2025.
It is worth noting that in 2024, RUB 10.4 trillion was planned for these expenditures.
The media notes that, in this way, spending on national defense and internal security of the Russian Federation in 2025 will exceed spending on education, health care, social policy, and the economy and will amount to about 40% of the Russian Federation’s total budgetary payments.
At the same time, according to Bloomberg’s estimates based on the draft Russian budget, Russia plans to slightly reduce its military spending in the coming years to 5.6% of GDP in 2026 and 5.1% in 2027.
In addition, Russia’s spending on classified or unspecified items is expected to increase to RUB 12.9 trillion in 2025 from the initially planned 11.1 trillion this year, remaining at about 30% of the aggressor country’s total budget expenditures.
Previously, a register of electronic military summons for citizens was launched in Russia in test mode.
According to the plan, full-fledged operation should start on November 1, 2024, as originally planned.
In addition, the website will publish relevant information on conscription, news, and notifications of restrictions on evaders’ rights.
Russia also prepared a nuclear test site on the island of Novaya Zemlya for new nuclear tests.
