Denmark will transfer 19 CAESAR self-propelled howitzers to Ukraine in the coming weeks.
The Ministry of Defense of Denmark said that they are already preparing the last group of Ukrainian artillerymen.
Earlier this year, the government decided to transfer to Ukraine all 19 CAESAR 8×8 self-propelled howitzers manufactured by the French company NEXTER.
However, Denmark said that a number of technical problems arose with the howitzers, which had to be solved in cooperation with the manufacturer and the Ukrainians.
The donation was accompanied by the training of future Ukrainian crews.
“This is a large and significant donation, which is very much needed by Ukraine,” said Acting Minister of Defense Troels Lund Poulsen.
On April 14, the Acting Minister of Defense had the opportunity to visit the last group of Ukrainians undergoing training near Oksbøl.
Together with the Defense Reconciliation Group and members of the Defense Committee and the Council on Foreign Policy, the Minister met instructors and Ukrainians.
“Denmark actively supported Ukraine throughout the war, and our donations, according to the Ukrainians themselves, were of great importance. With the recently created Ukrainian Fund, we aim to increase the level of support for Ukraine,” Troels Lund Poulsen said.
As previously reported, in March the Denmark’s government established a fund with 7 billion Danish crowns ($1.01 billion) to finance military, civilian, and business assistance to Ukraine.
Besides, Denmark and Norway have agreed on the joint supply of artillery shells to the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
The Danish Ministry of Defense concluded an agreement with Norway on the transfer of 8,000 shells for 155-mm artillery.
