The German government is considering supplying the Ukrainian servicemen with Flugabwehrkanonenpanzer Gepard anti-aircraft self-propelled guns from its industrial reserves.
Militarnyi informs about this.
According to Spiegel, Christine Lambrecht, Minister of Defense had announced this during a meeting of the defense institutions of the partner countries on the assistance to Ukraine, which is being hosted at the Rammstein Airbase in the west of Germany.
It is also about training the Ukrainian military with Panzerhaubitze 2000 artillery systems, which the Netherlands intends to supply to the Armed Forces.
“With these two announcements, Lambrecht wants to try and soften the sharp criticism towards Germany with regard to arms supplies, as the federal government has been criticized for several weeks for indecisiveness,” the newspaper said.
The Flakpanzer Gepard is a self-propelled anti-aircraft gun (SPAAG). This vehicle is based on the chassis of the Leopard 1 main battle tank. The turret, which can rotate for 360 degrees, is fitted with two 35 mm guns and two radars applied for search and tracking.
These guns are belt-fed. The maximum fire rate for a single gun is 550 rounds per minute. Gepard’s ammunition load consists of 640 armor-piercing-incendiary rounds for firing against air targets and 40 armor-piercing rounds against ground targets.
PzH-2000 is a 155 mm self-propelled howitzer on a crawler chassis, built on the basis of components and units of the “Leopard-2” tank.
For firing, the standard is separate-loading rounds that are being used in the NATO countries’ armies. It is equipped with a muzzle brake and ejector, the gun barrel with a rifled channel has a length of 52 calibers, and is equipped with a charging chamber.
