Ukraine to receive counter-UAS radars from United Kingdom

The United Kingdom will supply counter-UAS radar systems to Ukraine to cover the Armed Forces’ needs.

This was announced by Blighter Surveillance Systems on their website.

Blighter Surveillance Systems is a British designer and manufacturer of electronic-scanning radars and surveillance solutions. The company will supply a significant number of its A422 radars with counter-UAS capability.

The supply of these radars to Ukraine is part of military and technical assistance from the United Kingdom to support Ukrainian troops in hostilities against the Russian aggressor.

The manufacturer states that the first radar delivery will take place this month.

Blighter’s A422 Deployable Radar System is a fully integrated off-the-shelf drone detection and ground surveillance system. Its primary mission is to detect nano and micro-drones commonly used on battlefields and in urban combat zones for hostile reconnaissance.

This radar enables detection of airborne and ground targets at a distance of up to 20 km.

The system is designed for rapid deployment from transit cases. The radar can be used for urban battlefield reconnaissance, remote border surveillance, and perimeter protection.

The fully integrated system includes mast mounting hardware, system cabling, mains power supply, and a reliable laptop for remote system operation via a wired network connection.

The A422 deployable radar system covers a horizontal azimuth scan sector of 180°. For 360° surveillance a dual-A422 back-to-back configuration can be used. The radar uses Blighter’s W20S antennas giving a wide vertical elevation coverage up to 30°.

As previously reported, the UK will supply M270 multiple launch rocket systems (MLRS) and a sizable amount of M31A1 munitions to Ukraine.
