Fire Point Assembles First Test Samples of Indigenous Engine for Flamingo Missile

The Ukrainian company Fire Point has developed an indigenous turbojet engine for the Flamingo cruise missile.

The company’s chief engineer Denis Shtilerman said this in an interview with LIGAnet.

The company is currently assembling 10 test samples of the engine for trials.

“And most importantly, we are developing our own engine for the Flamingo… we have already developed it and are now assembling the first 10 test samples,” the engineer said.

He added that Fire Point would gradually transition to its own engine, with production volumes depending on orders.

The missile currently uses the Soviet AI-25 jet engine as its powerplant. The engine was produced in large quantities in Ukraine for the L-39 Albatros training aircraft.

During the Soviet period, more than 6,000 engines of this model were manufactured. Large numbers of them remain in countries across the post-Soviet space, Asia and Africa.
