The Russian officer killed in a car explosion in Balashikha near Moscow is Colonel Damir Davydov, head of the Missile and Artillery Ammunition Supply Department of the Russian Ministry of Defense.

The ASTRA media outlet reported this news.

According to the publication, Davydov knew Yaroslav Moskalik, the former head of the Main Operations Directorate of the Russian General Staff, who was killed in an explosion in the same area on April 25, 2025.

The military prosecutor’s office and the FSB are investigating the incident. It is reported that security service personnel worked at the scene in civilian clothes. An ASTRA source shared that the explosive device had been attached to the underside of the vehicle.

Damir Davydov headed the Missile and Artillery Ammunition Supply Department of the Main Missile and Artillery Directorate of the Russian Ministry of Defense (military unit 64176), which is responsible for supplying the Russian army with weapons and ammunition.

According to the Ukrainian project Evocation, Davydov grew up in the closed city of Penza-19, where his father, Rafail Davydov, worked at the Start production association. This defense enterprise manufactured missiles for Russia’s nuclear forces.

Open sources also indicate that he previously commanded the Central Testing Technical Bureau, which is part of the 51st Arsenal of the Russian Ministry of Defense in the Vladimir region.

Davydov lived in Building No. 6 on Kozheduba Street, near the site of the explosion.

The BMW X3 that exploded is not registered to him in open databases. At the same time, the vehicle appeared on the social media profile of his son Rafail, a cadet at the Military Academy for Logistics.

The residential district where the explosion occurred is also known as “Thirty.” It consists of 24 apartment buildings, most of which were built for servicemen of the Russian Armed Forces and their families.

The building near which the explosion occurred belongs to the first phase of the residential area’s development.

At that time, apartments in the building were distributed exclusively through structures of the Russian Ministry of Defense.
