Russian troops are being transferred to Ukraine from the occupied territories of Georgia as reinforcements.
Militarnyi reports about it.
According to a high-ranking US Defense Department official, the russian military is moving troops, who are stationed in Abkhazia and South Ossetia, to Ukraine, as reinforcements, CNN reports.
Russian troops have been stationed in Georgia after russia invaded the country in 2008.
The United States has seen “a certain number of troops leaving Georgia,” a Defense Department spokesperson told reporters, adding that the Pentagon could not provide the number of troops being moved by russia or their schedule.
“Now we have signs that they involve forces from Georgia to Ukraine,” the official said, adding that the United States was not tracking their movements through air reconnaissance.
The official said the Pentagon did not know where the troops from Georgia would be going in Ukraine while noting that the russia has said it is prioritizing its activity in the Donbas region in eastern Ukraine.
Also, the official said that russian forces have 22 ships in the Black Sea, and most of them are amphibious ships.
“We’ve seen them move into the Sea of Azov to conduct an amphibious assault, to try to strengthen their efforts in Mariupol, we have not seen them move on Odesa,” the official added.
Militarnyi reported that, according to the Chief of Staff of Ground Forces of Ukraine Oleksandr Gruzevych, rumors about russia is running out of missiles are unfounded.
According to him, the intensity of shelling by the russian forces is not decreasing.
He noted that the enemy had changed tactics. The russians are trying to track Ukrainian air defenses, aircraft, and artillery. Because they are the ones who inflict the most significant losses on the russians, and they are afraid of these forces.
