Ukraine received M1089A1P2 armored recovery vehicles

The Ukrainian military received American M1089A1P2 armored recovery vehicles.

The shots capturing these vehicles were released by the Ukraine Weapons Tracker resource’s analysts.

Thanks to these vehicles, the Ukrainian military can carry out a number of operations with equipment directly on the battlefield.

The vehicle’s capabilities include towing (evacuation) faulty and damaged armored vehicles, along with providing repair and maintenance of armored vehicles in the field and carrying out lifting works.

Production of M1089 vehicles first started in the United States in 1996. These armored recovery vehicles were originally manufactured by Stewart vs Stevenson. It was later acquired by Armor Holdings, which was subsequently absorbed by even larger BAE Systems. Since 2012, these tow trucks have been produced by Oshkosh.

The main job of this tow truck is supporting the family of unified military trucks, and other combat wheeled vehicles.

M1089 restores damaged, stuck, or overturned vehicles and, if necessary, tows them to repair units.

It can tow vehicles with a maximum weight of 25 tons. This tractor is transported by air, namely by C-130 Hercules or similar military transport aircraft.

The improved M1089A1 model replaced the original M1089 in production in 1999. The new version is equipped with a more powerful 7.2-liter 330 hp Caterpillar C7 turbocharged diesel engine. This vehicle also has an upgraded transmission.

The P2 modification of the vehicle received a new cab. M1089A1P2 has been produced since about 2009. The cabin was designated Long Term Armor Strategy (LTAS) and provides a higher level of protection than the previous Low Signature armored cabin.

In September, Ukrainian forces demonstrated M984A4 HEMTT armored recovery vehicles in the south of the country.
