Ukraine has commissioned Rheinmetall to supply 155-mm artillery shells and propellant charges. The order volume is described as “several tens of thousands of units.”
This was reported by the company.
The contract value, which will be reflected in the financial statements for the second quarter of 2026, amounts to “several tens of millions of euros.” Production has already begun, and the contract is scheduled for completion in the first quarter of 2027.
The ammunition is manufactured at the Rheinmetall Expal Munitions plant in Spain. The ER02A1 B/B shells and M203 propellant charges are already in use by various NATO countries.
They are used in a wide range of weapons systems of this caliber in Ukraine, such as Archer, Caesar, PzH 2000, and RCH 155.

In 2023, the German manufacturer acquired a Spanish shell manufacturer to expand its industrial capabilities and meet customer needs.
Spanish-made ERO2A1 shells were supplied to Ukraine in 2023.
In 2024, Spain ordered approximately 100,000 155-mm shells from Rheinmetall, manufactured by the acquired company Expal.
In 2025, the German defense company announced the acquisition of Muni Berka GmbH, located in Dietersdorf (Saxony-Anhalt), which specializes in the dismantling and storage of ammunition.
The Düsseldorf-based technology group has been expanding its production capacity since 2022 and plans to produce approximately 1.5 million 155-millimeter artillery shells per year by 2030.
In May of this year, the company announced that it was capable of manufacturing up to 100,000 shells in response to Ukraine’s request for 1.2 million shells annually.
