Rheinmetall has agreed to produce 100,000 long-range shells for Ukraine with a range of up to 60 kilometers.
This was reported by the resource German Aid to Ukraine on X, citing a statement by Rheinmetall CEO Armin Papperger during a conference call on the results of the first quarter of 2026.
According to him, Ukraine had previously requested 1.2 million long-range artillery shells per year.
These are 155 mm artillery shells with a range of up to 60 kilometers.
The company is actively ramping up ammunition production amid growing demand from Ukraine and NATO countries.
Prior to this, in February of this year, German Defence Minister Boris Pistorius announced that Germany would fulfill the request and fund this type of artillery ammunition.
155 mm extended-range shells are used to strike targets deep behind enemy lines.
Such ammunition can be used by NATO-standard artillery systems, including the PzH 2000, Caesar, Archer, and others.
It is worth noting that Rheinmetall is one of the key European manufacturers of artillery ammunition for Ukraine.
In recent years, the German company has significantly expanded its production capacity due to growing demand for large-caliber ammunition.
Recently, Rheinmetall delivered a batch of Lynx IFVs to Ukraine.
