Russia’s annual Navy Day parade will not take place in St. Petersburg this year.
The Russian Fontanka news outlet reported the cancellation, citing sources in the Russian Defense Ministry and the Navy.
As of mid-June, the Kremlin had yet to issue the presidential decree normally authorizing the event. According to the report, Russia’s naval fleets have also not been instructed to send personnel or ships to St. Petersburg, indicating that preparations for the parade are not underway.
Representatives of the Russian military command said that no instructions had been received from higher authorities, even though preparations for the large-scale event would normally be in full swing by this time of year.
“You can understand why – there are more pressing concerns right now,” a Russian Navy representative told reporters.
The Navy Day parade has been held in St. Petersburg every year since 2017. Traditionally, the celebrations were split between two venues: the Neva River in central St. Petersburg and the nearby Kronstadt naval base.
However, in recent years, the event has been scaled back due to security concerns and limited resources. In 2024, authorities canceled the Kronstadt segment of the parade, and in 2025 the event was scrapped entirely.
