Soldiers from the 23rd Assault Regiment R.U.G. of the Khartia Corps continued their advance in the Kupiansk sector, liberating two square kilometers of forest near the village of Zapadne.
The regiment’s press service released footage of the operation.
“Drone footage and helmet-mounted cameras captured the results of the assault teams’ work. Enemy attempts to establish positions or launch counterattacks were firmly repelled, the positions were cleared, and enemy equipment and documents were recovered,” the regiment said.
This advance was a continuation of an operation in which the unit had previously liberated 7.5 square kilometers of forest west of Dvorichna and established control over the northern part of the village of Zapadne.
“Step by step. Position by position. We are liberating Ukrainian territory from the enemy. The Khartia Corps has been defending the Kharkiv region since 2022 – from defending Kharkiv and reaching the state border to stopping Russia’s renewed offensive in 2024 near Vovchansk and Lyptsi. Over the past two years, the enemy has not advanced a single meter closer to Kharkiv,” the Khartia Corps said.
This part of the front line is important because controlling the area affects the Russian forces’ ability to advance toward the city of Kupiansk.
If the Ukrainian forces successfully continue their advance and reach the Oskil River east of the village of Zapadne, this could potentially help secure the right-bank part of Kupiansk against further Russian infiltration, or at least make such attempts significantly more difficult.
