The new jet interceptor managed to catch up with the Russian Geran-5 jet drone at a speed of 430 km/h.
These interceptors were provided to the 1020th Anti-Aircraft Missile and Artillery Brigade by Serhiy Prytula’s Charitable Foundation.
The Geran-5 was destroyed over the Chernihiv region at an altitude of 780 meters and a speed of 430 km/h.
“This is the second such shootdown using equipment from the foundation. The technology is new, so the crews are practicing with it under various conditions,” the foundation said.
The outcome depends not only on the technology: the crew’s experience and knowledge of the characteristics of aircraft-type UAVs are just as important.
The 1020th Anti-Aircraft Missile and Artillery Brigade recorded its first such success in September.
Geran-5-type jet drones fly fast and high, so it is often difficult for conventional interceptor drones to intercept them.
“The Foundation has contracted a number of manufacturers capable of countering this threat. Our task is to scale this up and strengthen the units,” the Foundation noted.
The Geran-5 is a Russian jet-powered strike drone approximately 6.5 meters long with a wingspan of about 3.2 meters.
Its maximum takeoff weight is approximately 850 kg, and its flight speed, according to publicly available data, is 425 km/h or higher.
The stated flight range is up to 950 km, and the flight altitude can reach 6,000 meters.
The drone is equipped with a turbojet engine and, according to publicly available data, can carry a warhead weighing about 90 kg.
