The Czech Ministry of Defense has canceled a tender to purchase 185 armored vehicles worth 24.7 billion Czech korunas (approximately €1 billion).
This is evidenced by an official notice of the procurement cancellation, published in the Czech public procurement register, according to Ekonomický deník.
The bidding process was halted while awaiting preliminary proposals, which were due by September 30.
The decision was justified by circumstances requiring special attention and economic factors.
Officially, the project involved procuring equipment for the engineering corps, medical services, and military police.
The procurement process became complicated because of the large number of specifications and requirements, which caused potential bidders to lose interest.
According to a market analysis conducted back in 2018, the Australian Bushmaster armored vehicle was considered the most suitable platform for the army.
This vehicle met the criteria for combat experience and did not require time-consuming development of a new platform.
Joint production and maintenance of the vehicles were planned to be carried out at the Czech state-owned enterprise VOP CZ.
Currently, the issue of providing the Czech Army’s medical and engineering units with armored wheeled vehicles remains unresolved.
Previously, the American company Flyer Defense, in partnership with the Czech STV Group, delivered the first batch of F72-HD heavy tactical vehicles to the Czech Republic.
In total, the country is set to receive 46 such vehicles, which the U.S. government is providing free of charge under the Foreign Military Financing (FMF) program in gratitude for its support of Ukraine.
