Poland Suggests U.S.-Ukraine Partnership to Produce Patriot Missiles

Poland has proposed that the U.S. and Ukraine establish a trilateral partnership to produce missiles for Patriot air defense systems.

Poland’s Deputy Minister of National Defence Magdalena Sobkowiak-Czarnecka made the proposal during her visit to Washington, according to PAP.

She emphasized that “the key issue is ensuring that the production takes place in a secure location.”

“We proposed that this should be a trilateral cooperation framework, involving the United States, Ukraine, and Poland, because it is about securing the production process and ensuring that this manufacturing takes place in a safe location,” the official said.

Sobkowiak-Czarnecka also emphasized that Patriot missiles are in high demand worldwide, meaning such cooperation could be beneficial for all three countries.

She added that detailed negotiations on implementing this initiative are expected to begin soon. She made the proposal following meetings with representatives of the Pentagon and the U.S. State Department.

Previously, Poland’s Minister of National Defence Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz also said that Warsaw would cooperate with Kyiv on the production and maintenance of PAC-3 missiles for Patriot systems, which are designed to intercept ballistic missiles.

He recalled that Poland had signed an agreement with the United States, Germany, the Netherlands, and Sweden to establish a European service and maintenance center for PAC-3 missiles used by Patriot air defense systems.

Commenting on U.S. President Donald Trump’s statement that Ukraine would receive a license to manufacture Patriot missiles, Kosiniak-Kamysz said that Poland would play a key role in the process.

The approval for Ukraine to produce Patriot interceptor missiles has raised questions about whether similar production rights could be extended to other U.S. allies.

When asked if the United States would allow European countries to produce Patriot interceptors domestically, Trump said the matter remains undecided.
