Patriot Air Defense System: Poland to Cooperate with Ukraine on Missile Production

Poland will cooperate with Ukraine on the production and maintenance of PAC-3 missiles for the Patriot systems.

This was announced on Thursday by Polish Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of National Defense Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz, according to a correspondent for the Ukrinform news agency.

The head of the Polish Defense Ministry noted that Poland had signed an agreement with the United States, Germany, the Netherlands, and Sweden to establish a service center in Europe for PAC-3 missiles used in the Patriot air defense system. Commenting on the statement by U.S. President Donald Trump regarding the granting of a license to Ukraine to manufacture missiles for the Patriot systems, Kosiniak-Kamysz emphasized that Poland will play an important role in this process.

“Today, no equipment is being supplied to Ukraine without Poland’s involvement,” the Polish minister noted.

According to him, Poland is part of a group of four NATO countries — along with Germany, Sweden, and the Netherlands — which, at the Alliance’s summit in Ankara, were granted the status of countries to which technologies related to the production and maintenance of missiles for Patriot systems may be transferred.

“Poland is one of the countries designated by the United States as a location where the production and maintenance of these missiles are to take place. Therefore, we will also cooperate with Ukraine in this area,” emphasized the Polish Minister of Defense.

He noted that launching the production of these missiles in Ukraine is a complex and lengthy process that will take many weeks.

“Currently, missiles for the Patriot systems are produced only in the United States, and even then in quantities that do not meet the needs of the United States itself. Therefore, this process must be accelerated. We are determined, and Poland is ready to immediately begin maintenance and take further action,” Kosiniak-Kamysz stated.

The minister also reported that negotiations are ongoing regarding the possible transfer of Polish MiG-29 fighter jets to Ukraine.
