Lithuania is ready to pay for the permanent deployment of U.S. troops on its territory.

Lithuanian Prime Minister Mindaugas Sinkevičius said this in an interview with Bloomberg.

The country is ready to build the necessary infrastructure and provide U.S. troops with suitable conditions.

The United States currently deploys troops to Lithuania on a rotational basis. U.S. units regularly arrive in the country, and their presence has been continuous since Russia launched its full-scale invasion of Ukraine.

About 1,000 U.S. servicemen are expected to arrive in Lithuania at the end of October. They will remain in the country for nine months.

At the same time, the future of the U.S. military presence in Europe remains uncertain.

The Pentagon is conducting a six-month review of the deployment of U.S. troops in Europe and considering various options for their future deployment.

Allies are concerned about a possible reduction in the U.S. troop presence.

NATO Supreme Allied Commander Europe Alexus Grynkewich said that the United States would continue to support the Alliance but could provide ‘critical but more limited capabilities’ going forward.

Lithuania previously said it was ready to host up to 1,500 U.S. troops. Overall, Lithuania and Poland are interested in maintaining and strengthening a permanent U.S. military presence in Eastern Europe.

Against this backdrop, a new rotation of U.S. troops is heading to Lithuania, while Poland is ready to pay for the deployment of U.S. troops on its territory. The United States has been deploying battalion units in Lithuania since 2019.

At the same time, Poland also wants to establish a permanent U.S. military base on its territory. Polish Deputy Minister of National Defence Paweł Zalewski said Warsaw is ready to pay $15,000 per year for each U.S. service member and cover the costs of the necessary infrastructure.
