Ukrainian military personnel developed a BTR-60PB-based kamikaze drone that helped break through Russian defenses in the village of Nove.
A video showing this heavy drone in action was shared by the commander of the 3rd Separate Assault Brigade, Andriy Biletskyi.
The BTR-60PB, which is in service with the 3rd Separate Assault Brigade, was chosen for the project.
Engineers succeeded in integrating a remote control system and cameras for the operator into the Soviet armored vehicle.
The drone was first deployed against Russian positions in the village of Nove in the Lyman sector, where the 3rd Army Corps liberated territories from the invaders.
A reconnaissance drone followed the kamikaze drone to adjust its route.
“They blew up the enemy’s strongest fortifications,” said Andriy Biletskyi.
There are several projects in Ukraine involving unmanned armored personnel carriers.
Earlier, ArmSpetsTechnologia presented a heavily modernized BRDM-2M, which was equipped with remote control capabilities.
The concept calls for a serviceman to independently transport the armored vehicle to a designated area, after which it switches to remote control.
Engineers from Khartia have converted the American M113 armored personnel carrier into an unmanned platform for mine clearance and logistics. The Skelya regiment is also developing a project to remotely control the American M1117 armored personnel carrier.
As early as 2023, the Russians attempted to employ similar tactics. They packed MT-LB armored personnel carriers with explosives and sent them toward Ukrainian positions.
